Workshop Equips Registrars
The College of Health Sciences’ two-day development workshop for junior and senior registrars in July aimed to provide registrars with academic and research support but most importantly to build cohesion amongst them.
‘If you want change, you need to speak with one voice. This programme is structured to encourage robust engagement on issues that affect you. The College of Health Sciences is giving you a platform to develop you holistically and to support you to develop resilience. The registrar programme is very demanding and you need to take care of your mental health and be able to balance your personal, family and academic life,’ said psychiatrist and Academic Leader for the College’s Registrar Training Programme, Dr Suvira Ramlall.
Senior specialists engaged the workshop participants on critical academic and personal issues like professionalism in medicine, mental and financial wellness, developing a learning plan, and medical teaching, training and mentorship.
The workshop also addressed the research challenges such as how to turn clinical questions into a research question, conducting a literature review, endnote training and proposal writing.
‘I have learnt so much today and I will be putting these lessons into practice and also assist other students,’ said 29-year-old, Dr Sinegugu Mdletshe, a first-year MMed student in Paediatrics attached to RK Khan hospital.
